The Ford Mustang: the Best-Selling Sports Car of Last Decade

April 18th, 2023 by

While it may have lost the U.S. sports car sales race to the Dodge Challenger in 2021, the Ford Mustang is still burning up the sales charts worldwide. In fact, Ford just announced that the Mustang was the best-selling sports car and sports coupe in the world last year, with 69,096 units delivered globally. That’s a bit down from 2020 when the Mustang led both categories with 80,577 deliveries, but it’s still an incredible feat.

While rivals like the Chevy Camaro and Dodge Challenger are heading out to pasture, the Mustang will continue to be the last muscle car standing in ICE form. Plus, it’s not just in the U.S. where the Mustang has been a smashing success – it’s been the world’s best-selling sports car for the past decade!

According to S&P Global Mobility, the U.S. is still the Mustang’s biggest market, with 78% of global sales going to American customers. But we’re also seeing increasing popularity in other parts of the world, including Germany, the UK, Switzerland, and the Middle East. At Haldeman Ford, we’re proud to serve Mustang enthusiasts around the globe and bring them the freedom and open-road experience that only a Mustang can provide.

Despite the ongoing parts supply issues affecting the auto industry, we’ve been able to sell over 52,000 Mustangs in the U.S. alone, and the car is offered in over 100 countries worldwide. We’re thrilled that the Mustang has earned the honor of world’s best-selling sports car for 10 years combined, and we’re committed to continuing to serve the Mustang community for many years to come.

As the world gears up to celebrate Mustang Day on April 17, the anniversary of the original Mustang’s reveal at the World’s Fair in New York in 1964, our team at Haldeman in Allentown is excited about the future of this iconic car. With the launch of the all-new S650 model and the possible return of the Shelby GT500 convertible mule, there’s plenty for Mustang fans to look forward to in the coming years. So stay tuned to our blog and let us know if you want to get behind the wheel of one of our Mustangs today!
