Ford’s EV Charging Initiative for Massachusetts Businesses

June 24th, 2024 by

Ford Pro™, the commercial arm of Ford, has launched the innovative Ford Pro™ Smart Charging Bundle to aid Massachusetts businesses in transitioning to electric vehicle (EV) fleets. This initiative is designed to reduce both the initial and ongoing costs of EV charging, making it easier for businesses to adopt sustainable practices.

The Ford Pro™ Smart Charging Bundle provides a complimentary Ford Pro™ 48-amp charger for home or worksite use, or an 80-amp charger exclusively for worksites, to subscribers of Ford Pro™ Charging software who are part of the Clean Peak Energy Standard (CPS). This groundbreaking program was established by the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (DOER) in 2020 to promote the use of clean energy technologies during peak electricity demand periods.

The CPS aims to lower emissions and reduce the costs associated with peak energy demand by encouraging the use of clean technologies that can supply energy or reduce demand during these critical times. Elizabeth Mahony, Commissioner of the DOER, emphasized the importance of such technologies: “Clean energy technologies like energy storage and demand response resources help lower the reliance on expensive fossil fuels during peak electricity demand periods. The Clean Peak Energy Standard is designed to reduce costs for ratepayers, lower emissions, and create a more resilient electric grid. Ford Pro’s Smart Charging Bundle supports these goals and aids Massachusetts in its mission to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.”

Ford Pro™ Charging supports over 1,000 commercial depots, providing the necessary infrastructure to charge fleet EVs. Ford Pro™ is dedicated to simplifying the electric transition for businesses by offering tailored EV consulting and a comprehensive range of integrated charging hardware and software solutions. Their team designs, implements, and manages charging solutions not only for Ford vehicles but also for other brands, ensuring that fleet vehicles are charged efficiently and ready for use.

The Ford Pro™ Charging software is a powerful tool that monitors millions of data points daily to enhance the EV charging experience for commercial customers. This software allows businesses to customize and manage their EV charging schedules, optimizing performance and cost-efficiency. According to Ford, operating costs for EV fleets can be 48% lower or more in terms of fuel and maintenance compared to traditional vehicles. Additionally, businesses that charge Ford electric vehicles using smart charging software can potentially save hundreds of dollars per vehicle annually by scheduling charging during off-peak hours. By leveraging demand response to reduce charging during peak times, energy loads are managed more effectively, leading to significant cost savings and a cleaner power grid.

Ted Cannis, CEO of Ford Pro, highlighted the company’s commitment to easing the transition to electric vehicles for business and government customers. “Our team is focused on making the switch to electric as seamless as possible for our clients,” Cannis said. “Through this program, Ford Pro customers essentially have their own virtual ‘charging manager.’ We handle everything from providing no-cost charging hardware to managing charging schedules, avoiding peak rates, and ensuring that business EVs are always charged and ready for use.”

Ford Pro™ offers an all-encompassing customer experience through its suite of solutions, which includes vehicles, charging, software, financing, and service for commercial and government clients.
