The 2027 Ford F-150 Gets Smarter, Stronger, and More Distinctive
Ford is updating the F-150 for 2027 with a combination of refreshed styling, expanded driver-assistance technology, revised engine choices, more accessible off-road models, and a new collaboration with Carhartt. The changes come as the Ford F-Series continues a long run as America’s truck sales leader, with Ford emphasizing customer feedback as a major influence on how the F-150 evolves. Rather than completely reinventing the truck, the 2027 lineup builds on its existing formula while expanding choices for buyers interested in work, towing, off-roading, and distinctive styling.
A Fresh Look for the 2027 F-150
Several F-150 trims receive exterior updates for the new model year. The XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum models feature redesigned grilles intended to provide a more modern interpretation of the familiar F-150 appearance. New wheel designs are also part of the refresh.
Ford says the changes were influenced by owners who wanted the truck to maintain its recognizable character while gaining a more contemporary look. The result is an evolutionary design update rather than a dramatic departure from the current F-150 formula.
BlueCruise Adds Hands-Free Towing Capability
One of the most significant technology additions is BlueCruise with Towing. Ford says more than 75 percent of F-150 customers use their trucks to tow, making towing assistance a major focus for the 2027 model.
The new system allows drivers to use BlueCruise hands-free highway driving while towing compatible boats, campers, and trailers on more than 130,000 miles of pre-qualified divided highways known as Blue Zones. Drivers must remain attentive and monitor the road even while the system is operating.
BlueCruise with Towing will not be restricted to the most expensive trims. It will be accessible on BlueCruise-equipped versions ranging from the XLT and Tremor through the Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum. Customers with an active BlueCruise subscription will not have to pay an additional fee specifically for the towing functionality.
Updated Engine Lineup
The 2027 F-150 also receives a revised powertrain lineup led by a new standard 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6. It replaces the previous 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 and shares the same core engine architecture. Although peak capability remains similar, Ford says the 3.0-liter delivers roughly 10 to 11 percent more torque in the range most commonly used during everyday driving.
The 5.0-liter V8 also returns to the King Ranch and Platinum trims for the first time since 2023, making the V8 available throughout the F-150 lineup. Other choices include the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, which can provide up to 500 lb-ft of torque and a maximum towing capacity of 13,500 pounds when properly configured.
